Edicions del Periscopi is an independent publishing house based in Barcelona. Our original inspiration is to choose and edit for the Catalan reader those contemporary works that stand out due to its literary values, and also to become the link between important narrative voices and those readers who search for a reference point that assures them of a full and pleasant reading experience in the Catalan language. To achieve this goal, we are committed to take care right up until the last detail in our books. The ingredients we count on to cook and present the books that are to delight the most demanding literary gourmets are: meticulously chosen contents, attractive and precise translations, the best legibility and inside and out modern, elegant and instantly recognizable design. The purposes of which is that quality is king. Love for good literature is our engine; its dissemination, our commitment.
The works published by Periscopi are those from contemporary writers framed in literary fiction and all of them share its literary excellence. Every published work has overcome a selection process that assures that only those titles that guarantee a profitable reading and that delights the most literary of readers are published. Periscopi's writers may come from any culture, and be any age or genre. We are proud to have already published authors such as Mohsin Hamid, Hakan Günday, Susan Faludi, Gonçalo M. Tavares, David Vann, Szilárd Borbély, Karen Russell, David Foster Wallace, Fiston Mwanza Mujila, Ludmila Petrushevskaya, Mia Couto, Jonathan Lee, José Eduardo Agualusa, Wajdi Mouawad, Colson Whitehead, Kent Haruf, Jesmyn Ward, Akwaeke Emezi, Mircea Cărtărescu or Burhan Sönmez, amongst many others.
Edicions del Periscopi publishes nine titles per year, a quantity that makes it possible that all the details in the books can be worked properly. All the team, from translators to proofreaders, assures an excellent result, and we are specially committed with the goal of getting to all the possible readers for our books. Our efforts have the sympathy of booksellers, who consider Periscopi as one of the best independent publishing companies in Catalonia, and as a quality warrant. Periscopi has been awarded three times with the Llibreter Prize, the Award given by the Booksellers Guild (to Anima, by Wajdi Mouawad, in 2014, and to Ice Giants, by Joan Benesiu, in 2015, and to A General Theory of Oblivion, by José Eduardo Agualusa, in 2018). All of our books are designed to be recognised as an important book from our catalogue, so that booksellers, press and readers may recognise it instantly as an elegant book with an attractive content and a precise translation.
